Robert Peale MehR.P.M. Architects was established in 1981 by Robert Peale Mehl in Santa Barbara, California.  With an undergraduate degree from Penn State and a Masters in Environmental Design from Virginia Tech, Robert worked for several local firms including Sierra West Architects and The Berkus Group before opening his own firm.

Working in both commercial and residential sectors, R.P.M. Architects has almost thirty years of experience in dealing with some of the toughest permitting agencies around by adhering and complying to the strict building codes that Santa Barbara County is known for.

Rob’s love of the outdoors has often influenced his work and his buildings are known to have open spaces that create a feeling of nature coming into the room.  Most notable are his many wineries in the popular Santa Ynez Valley where he is known for creating beautiful spaces that invite one to slow down and relax, pausing a moment to enjoy the good life.

Rob has been married for over 25 years and has two grown sons.  His wife Cathy is a journalist for professional cycling and his sons Conner and Dane are pursuing careers in firefighting and photography.  Rob enjoys many sports, including sailing, horseback riding, cycling, hiking, snowboarding, surfing, rock climbing, camping, kayaking and many other sports.  Sitting still is not on Rob's list of things to do.
